Self Fly Hire / Hours Building
Now is the time to build upon your knowledge and experience gained during training by increasing your pilot in command hours. This period in your flying development is known as hours building or to us as heliadventuring. By doing this you are increasing your position on the learning curve, enabling you to go on advanced courses, such as conversion training or you may wish to make a career out of
helicopter flying.
However, you may be happy gaining more experience in the helicopter you learnt to fly in. Use our landing site directory, visit hotels etc. - the world is your oyster! Self-fly hire from Helicentre Blackpool is breathtaking - the stunning Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Wales to name just a few are only a short flight away.
Our helicopters are available for self-fly hire 7 days a week. Make the most of your new found freedom and get heliadventuring.
Type Conversion Training
Having gained your licence, spread your wings and convert to one of our larger helicopters. The R44 and Bell 206 Jet Ranger are unique and exciting machines, both of them different from one another. Each has the added bonus of allowing you to impress your family and friends with your newly acquired skills by taking passengers along in comfort and style.
Each type conversion requires a minimum of five hours training with your personal flight instructor, a multiple choice exam and a flight test with a CAA approved examiner.
Night Conversion
helicentre Blackpool offers a night rating course, which will allow you to fly at night. Pilots must have a minimum of 100 hours of flight time as Pilot of helicopters after the issue of the PPL(H), including 60 hours as pilot in command of helicopters and 20 hours cross-country flight.
Refresher Courses
Instructors are available seven days a week to assist with any aspect of your flying. If you feel that you need a refresher course, call and book in the diary. Help and advice is always at hand.
Professional Opportunities
Awareness within the aviation industry is growing and opportunities exist for helicopter pilots in a wide variety of roles. Please see the separate section on Career Opportunities / CPL(H) for further information.
How do I Keep my Licence Current?
The PPL(H) licence itself is valid for five years. Renewal is merely an administrative exercise, provided you have kept your licence current. To use your PPL(H) there are two main requirements. Firstly, you must have a currant medical. Secondly, having achieved your PPL(H) you must fly for at least 2 hours each year on each helicopter type to keep your licence current, and do an annual licence proficiency
check (LPC) for each type with a CAA approved examiner. Provided you fly regularly this should be nothing for you to worry about.
To carry passengers, you must have done at least three take-offs and landings within the last 3 months.
