The CPL(H) Entry Requirements

Before you can commence your CPL(H) Modular Flying Course you must have:

  • A total of 155 hours helicopter flying (which must include 50 hours as Pilot in Command of Helicopters). The hours taken to achieve your PPL(H) can be included in this total. The remaining hours, can be achieved through self-fly hire. (Please see Beyond the PPL(H) for further details).
  • A valid JAR Class I Medical Certificate.
  • Completed and passed the theoretical knowledge examinations. These are undertaken on either a full or part-time basis, through a specialist provider, depending on your own personal situation. helicentre Blackpool can provide details as required.

The Modular Flying Course

Having met the above entry requirements, the helicentre Blackpool Flying Course includes the following:

  • 30 hours of flight training or 35 hours if no night qualification is held. Within this, at least 5 hours will be cross-country and 10 hours dual instrument instruction.

During the course, many of the PPL(H) subjects are revisited but to a higher level. Having completed your training, you will demonstrate to an Examiner that you have the necessary skills for the issue of a CPL(H) through a skill test.

Congratulations you are now a Commercial Pilot.

The Flight Instructor Course

Having become a Commercial Pilot, you may wish to add an Instructors Rating as this opens up new avenues of work. Before you can complete this course you must have at least 250 flying hours and pass a pre-entry flight test. The course consists of flying, ground briefings, ground instruction and a final flight test to enable you to be able to teach others to learn to fly.
